A black dial and brushed black ceramic bezel define this Oris Aquis Date. The rotating bezel lets you track elapsed minutes without changing the time.
DESIGN
The black dial and ceramic bezel give this Oris Aquis Date a consistent look across the watch face. The bezel has a brushed finish, with its graduated minutes scale surrounding the dial. That matching black combination is a defining feature of reference 01 733 7653 4154-07 8 26 01PEB.
The hands and hour markers stand out clearly against the black combination. Both have polished silver-coloured surfaces and luminous fills, giving you distinct shapes to read against the dark background. Minute markings sit around the edge, while the date window at 6 o'clock keeps the calendar display centred beneath the hands.
Around the dial, the steel case gives the watch its broad shape. Satin finishing covers the case, and substantial guards frame the crown at 3 o'clock. Short attachments join the case directly to the wide stainless steel bracelet, so the shape continues from one into the other. This close connection between case and bracelet is an important part of the Aquis's appearance.
FUNCTIONS
You can use the bezel to time an interval without changing the watch's time setting. Turn it until the zero marker lines up with the minute hand, then read the minutes that have passed against the scale. The bezel turns in one direction, so an accidental movement during an interval of less than an hour increases the elapsed time shown. Alongside the luminous display, this forms part of the watch's diving equipment. Its original water-resistance rating was 30 bar, or 300 metres, although you should have its present water resistance checked before relying on that rating.
The automatic Oris calibre 733 winds through wrist movement and can also be wound by hand. Its original specification gives approximately 38 hours of power reserve, so it will need winding and resetting if you leave it unworn long enough to stop. Unscrew the crown before winding it. The reserve is useful between wears, but it will not cover a full weekend away from your wrist.
For setting the watch, the crown's intermediate position adjusts the date, and its fully extended position adjusts the time. The seconds hand stops while you set the time, allowing you to synchronise it. The quick-set date saves you from turning the hands through several days, but avoid using it between 21:00 and 03:00. Oris recommends setting the previous date first, then moving the hands forwards through midnight so you know whether the watch is showing morning or afternoon. Once you have finished, push the crown in and screw it down. Do not adjust it underwater.
ON THE WRIST
At 43 mm across, this Aquis has a broad case, but its short attachments keep the lugs from extending far beyond it. That makes the case shape worth considering alongside the diameter when you judge how it might sit on your wrist. Retailer specifications put the thickness at around 13 mm and the bracelet weight at 193 g, although the weight will depend on how the bracelet is sized. The steel construction is substantial; the short lugs do not make it a lightweight watch.
The bracelet carries that broad shape around the wrist, tapering from 26 mm at the case to 22 mm at the clasp. Screw-secured links allow sizing, while a folding clasp and diving extension provide the fastening arrangement. Brushed centre links and polished sides give it a mix of quieter surfaces and brighter edges. When worn, the wide bracelet connection frames the dark circular face, giving the watch a solid steel sports-watch appearance without relying on a bright dial colour.
PRICE GUIDE
This original-generation Aquis Date was available during the mid-2010s and is now discontinued. If you want the nearest new-watch option, the current black Aquis Date 43.50 mm, reference 01 733 7789 4154-07 8 23 04PEB, has a Malaysian retail price of RM12,500 as of 18 October 2026. It keeps the black ceramic bezel and steel bracelet combination, with a slightly larger, revised case and bracelet.
Overseas pre-owned prices for the original bracelet model are approximately RM3,900–RM6,800. Condition and included items vary, and the lower end includes a watch advertised as not having water resistance.
