DESIGN
The black ceramic bezel and horizontally grooved dial give this Aquaracer its distinctive look. On the TAG Heuer Aquaracer 500M Calibre 5 WAK2110.BA0830, the two black surfaces form a dark centre framed by steel, while silver-coloured bezel markings and a luminous starting marker define the outer scale. Look closer at the dial, and the horizontal grooves add texture without introducing another colour.
The hands and applied hour markers carry luminous fill, with an unmagnified date window at 3 o'clock. This layout came with the 2012 redesign, which changed the preceding generation's vertical dial detailing and removed its date magnifier. The date sits within the dial, leaving the crystal free of a raised magnifying lens.
That redesign also reduced the steel case from 43mm to 41mm. Brushed surfaces are paired with polished case sides, crown and bezel grips, and the original steel bracelet continues the same combination of finishes. These details give you more to notice than the black dial alone, while keeping the colours consistent across the watch.
FUNCTIONS
You can use the rotating bezel to track elapsed minutes. Line up its zero marker with the minute hand when you start, then read the time passed against the scale. The bezel turns counter-clockwise only, so an accidental movement shows more elapsed time, not less.
The original 500m water-resistance rating is accompanied by an automatic helium escape valve at approximately 10 o'clock. This serves divers spending prolonged periods in helium-rich pressurised environments: helium can enter the case, then create excess internal pressure as the surrounding pressure falls during decompression. The valve releases it automatically, so you don't need to operate it. Before taking the watch into water, have its water resistance checked; the original rating does not confirm its condition today.
The Calibre 5 automatic movement runs the time and date and has an approximate 38-hour power reserve. Your wrist movement winds it, but if it stops, you will need to wind it and reset the displays. Unscrew the crown to wind it, pull it out to adjust the date or time, then secure it again when you have finished.
ON THE WRIST
At 41mm across, this Aquaracer is smaller than the preceding 43mm generation. Its case measures about 48mm from lug to lug, with a dealer-listed thickness of around 12–13mm. When trying it on, consider the length across your wrist as well as the diameter: the projecting lugs are part of the fit, alongside the steel bracelet.
The bracelet closes with a push-button folding clasp and uses removable pin-and-collar links, with three micro-adjustment positions at the clasp. Removing links changes the overall length, while those clasp settings let you refine it. Check that you can reach a setting you like, as the spacing between adjustments matters when you want the bracelet neither too loose nor too tight.
PRICE GUIDE
Introduced in 2012, the WAK2110.BA0830 is discontinued and is no longer a current new-watch model. If you want the nearest new-watch option, the steel-bracelet Aquaracer Professional 300 Date WBP5110.BA0013 costs RM18,700 at official Malaysian retail. It keeps the black dial and ceramic bezel combination, with a slightly larger 42mm case, a 300m rating and an 80-hour power reserve.
Pre-owned prices are approximately RM4,500–RM7,600 across Malaysian and overseas listings, including past advertised prices.
