DESIGN
Blue is the first thing you notice about the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Date WAZ1010.BA0842. It runs from the sunray-brushed dial into the aluminium bezel insert, giving the face a continuous area of colour. Against that blue, the orange seconds hand stands out, while the silver-coloured hour and minute hands keep the rest of the display coordinated with the steel case.
Look closer, and the large 6 and 12 numerals give the dial its character. Applied markers fill the other hour positions around the date window at 3 o'clock. With three central hands and no subdials, the numerals and colour combination remain the focus.
The case adds shape around that round dial. Broad shoulders flank the crown, while short, angular lugs lead into the fine-brushed steel bracelet. Brushed and polished case surfaces provide variation within the steel, keeping the blue and orange as the watch's main colour accents.
FUNCTIONS
The everyday functions are straightforward: hours, minutes, seconds and the date. The orange hand shows running seconds, so you read it as part of the ordinary time display. A replaceable battery powers the quartz movement, so you don't need to wind it. If the watch stops because the battery has run down, have it replaced promptly.
You can also use the rotating bezel to follow elapsed minutes. Turn it until the zero marker lines up with the minute hand at the start of an interval. As the hand moves, the bezel scale shows how many minutes have passed. The bezel turns in one direction, giving you a simple timing reference without a separate stopwatch mechanism.
The watch was originally rated to 200m water resistance and has a screw-down steel crown. If you are buying it pre-owned, have its current water resistance checked before taking it into the water; the original rating alone does not establish its condition today.
ON THE WRIST
To judge the size, consider both the case width and length. It measures 43mm across and 11.65mm thick, with short, angular lugs. A dealer-reported lug-to-lug measurement of about 48mm gives you another dimension to consider when trying it on. Visually, the blue dial and bezel form a distinct centre on the wrist, with the steel case and bracelet framing the colour.
The bracelet closes with a push-button folding clasp. Its micro-adjustment lets you fine-tune the fit as you adjust the bracelet links. When trying the watch, check the bracelet adjustment as well as the case dimensions: both matter to how it sits on your wrist.
